Placement/Employment Service

Successful completion of the course and a passing score on the State Board Examination qualifies the graduate to perform barbering service for pay in any establishment licensed by the Louisiana Board of Barber Examiners.

Job placement assistance is provided to graduates and students at no additional charge.

After students pass the licensing examination, students are encouraged to return for placement assistance. Park Place cannot guarantee job placement/employment or salary to students. With the network of many salons, the school does receive inquiries from prospective salons, barber shops and these may be posted on the bulletin in the break room. Career guidance is considered part of the educational process, students are sent on interviews and the school follows-up with the student /potential employers.

Reciprocity information is available to students transferring to another state.

Physical Demands of the Barber Profession

The physical demands of the barber profession require healthy body and mind. Good health is a basic element for living. Without it one cannot work efficiently or enjoy a pleasurable life.

This field of study requires a great deal of standing, walking, pushing, bending and stretching for extended periods of time. You should practice stress management through relaxation, rest, and exercise and avoid substance that can negatively affect your good health such as cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.

A person must consider his/her physical limitations in terms of making a career choice that involves extensive physical demands. Persons who cannot stand for long periods of time could choose a career as a nail technician, which requires sitting with good posture. Therefore, good health, personal hygiene and good posture are important demands in the Barber field. Use of your hands to handle and control, combs, scissors, and clippers.

It is important for barbers to be able to:

  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Use fingers or hands to grasp and move small objects.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Repeat the same motions over and over.

Career/Job Opportunities

As a barber you will have a rewarding career with flexible hours. This includes providing barbering services, such as cutting, trimming, shampooing, and styling hair, trimming beards, or giving shaves. Barbering is a career choice that may take you traveling to all parts of the world either cutting/styling hair or selling hair products for companies. Career opportunities may include: employment in a Barber shop, independent Barber renting a station, eligible for cosmetology cross training or Instructor Training course.

You could also open your own barber shop and enjoy the freedom of being your own boss, or work as a barber shop manager. The average salary for a barber in Louisiana is $10.64 per hour (LA Workforce Commission, Occupational Wage Data.
